In West Java outside the city of Bandung resides the oldest coffee region of the Indonesian archipelago. Yet today, only a few small farmers have taken on the task of reintroducing Arabica to West Java where plants had been obliterated by coffee rust in the late 1880s. Carefully nurtured at altitudes up to 1,550 metres, these Java beans are hand-selected from various varieties before being washed. With a slightly earthy character, this cup impresses with its body and sweetness, rare amongst Indonesian coffees.
