At Bacha Coffee, we are committed to creating consciously and put sustainability at the heart of what we do.

Bacha Coffee’s philosophy has been deeply rooted in sustainable development with the mission to ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy the same quality coffees we do today.

The company’s long-term vision is modelled after the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework that is increasingly considered a holistic benchmark for sustainable business practices.

Bacha Coffee believes that it can play its part in contributing towards a sustainable future by focusing on three pillars of sustainability – Craft, Community and Commitment.

Craft

Protecting the environment is at the core of Bacha Coffee — from coffee farming, harvesting, production, processing and packaging, to the way Bacha Coffee operates its Coffee Rooms & Boutiques.

The company’s activity is closely related to environmentally sustainable development that does not inflict damage to the planet or exhaust resources that cannot be renewed.

Bacha Coffee collaborates with coffee farmers who share its commitment to cultivating and crafting coffee sustainably, using all natural ingredients in its coffee and derivative products as well as sustainable materials in its packaging.

Community

Coffee farming is a labour of love. At Bacha Coffee, coffee processing, blending, and packaging are done entirely by hand, relying on skilled craftsmanship at every level to deliver the Bacha Coffee experience.

In its efforts to care for the people and communities behind the creation of every coffee, Bacha Coffee prioritises working with coffee plantations and partners who care for the workforce, preserve traditional craftsmanship and sustainable business practices, invest in grooming talent, and adopt inclusivity in the workplace.

Commitment

To ensure that future generations get to enjoy the same quality coffee we do today, Bacha Coffee commits to taking a long-term perspective — investing in both past, present and future — to build a legacy.

Social sustainability stems from building lasting businesses that promote employees’ wellbeing. This is done by understanding employees’ social, financial, and emotional needs. Bacha Coffee provides social and cultural engagements, safety, and security, as well as training and education at the Bacha Coffee Institute, a comprehensive coffee training facility designed for our employees and partners worldwide.

Bacha Coffee partners with farmers, suppliers, distributors, and operators who complement our path and share our desire to leave a positive impact on our environment. We do this by:

  • Sourcing directly from coffee farmers and plantations in order to ship containers straight from the source, lessening the freight and carbon footprint of our coffee.
  • Retailing our collection of loose coffee beans in bulk, thereby reducing the need for extensive packaging.
  • Offering a collection of coffees with Organic, Sustainable, Fair Trade and/or Rainforest Alliance certification;
  • Using 100% natural flavourings and actively supporting the use of non-GMO raw ingredients in our coffees;
  • Using environmentally friendly packaging made of recyclable cardboard, recyclable and reusable glass, reusable and degradable tin and our proprietary commercially compostable coffee bags.

How is Bacha Coffee sourced?
Bacha Coffee is sourced from 35 coffee-producing countries including unique bio-geographic locations such as Ethiopia, Hawaii, Jamaica and Yemen. Since we purchase our green coffees directly from farmers, we ship containers straight from the source, which lessens the freight and carbon footprint of our coffees. Sourcing directly from farmers also allows us to have exceptionally fresh coffees and guarantees the traceability of our products.

Does Bacha Coffee have any sustainability practices?
We only source coffees from farms that produce exceptional-quality, handpicked harvests. In order to produce such coffees, farmers take incredible care of the environment and their workers. They are usually very highly skilled and require years of training and experience in order to pick just the right coffee cherries and process each day’s harvest according to exacting standards to bring out the best flavour in the cup. By sourcing directly from internationally renowned estates as well as exceptional individual farms owned by single planters, we ensure that our sources always maintain the very highest standards.

Is Bacha Coffee packaging recyclable?
When possible and when there is no chance of spoiling the freshness or quality of our coffees, we aim to use only natural materials in our packaging, including recyclable and biodegradable paper, recyclable and reusable glass, recyclable aluminium and degradable and reusable tin. Our proprietary coffee bags are made of environmentally friendly fabric and biodegradable paper and our overwraps are made of recyclable aluminium and recycled materials. Bacha Coffee Rooms recycle spent coffee grounds which are composted by A1 Environment and used for organic farming.

Does Bacha Coffee have any sustainability targets?
Bacha Coffee’s activity is rooted in sustainable development: only by respecting the environment can we also ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy the same quality coffee we drink today. A great majority of our coffees are cultivated in remote regions at high elevations, where coffee plants grow naturally without the aid of fertilizers or pesticides. We work preferentially with organic planters in countries where such standards can be trusted. In fact, many of our coffees come from countries so remote that organic methods are the only recognised methods of farming. Water conservation is practised in all Bacha Coffee Rooms. We have designed proprietary water dispensers for our premises which automatically turn the water off when it is not in use, greatly minimising water wastage.
