To celebrate the opening of our new European flagship in Paris, Bacha Coffee has collaborated with renowned French Moroccan artist Mehdi Qotbi to design 2,000 serialised pieces of a special edition of our I Love Paris Coffee. Available exclusively at our Champs-Élysées boutique, this exceptional gift box, part of our Signature Nomad collection, beautifully reproduces Mehdi Qotbi’s work which is integrated into the decor of our Parisian flagship. I Love Paris Coffee, a signature Fine Flavoured brew, invites coffee enthusiasts to take a stroll through the aromas and flavours of the French capital, where ripe forest berries and wild nuts come together to enchant the palate as in a lovers’ embrace.
The Bacha Coffee Legacy of Creative Collaboration
Highlighting the natural resonance between his art and the world of Bacha Coffee, Mehdi Qotbi shares that, “coffee has always been the best ally of creators and artists, a source of inspiration and a driving force for creativity that opens new horizons to the imagination”. We couldn’t agree more. In fact, celebrating this extraordinary relationship between coffee and creativity is part of our heritage and why we chose this artist collaboration. The story of Bacha Coffee begins in the medina of Marrakech, Morocco. Built in 1910, the spectacular Dar el Bacha palace united the greatest cultural and political minds of the century over glittering pots of “coffee of Arabia” or Arabica, as it is known today. Among its many notable guests were the writer Colette, composer Maurice Ravel, filmmaker Charlie Chaplin, entertainer Josephine Baker, US president Franklin Roosevelt and UK prime minister Winston Churchill, to name a few. More than a century later, Bacha Coffee continues to attract philosophers, musicians, politicians, artists and film stars, and welcomes creativity in all its forms.
Meet the “Poet of Patterns”
An avid admirer of the creative spark behind coffee and café culture, Mehdi Qotbi’s art transposes Arabic calligraphy into abstract ideographic images of arabesque outlines that swerve and intertwine across vivid colours. Each brush stroke evokes emotion, voice, and meaning. His work is a universe in itself, imprinted with poetry, rhythm and pattern through his use of calligraphy to create imaginary ideographic images featured in the permanent collections of museums around the world from New York to Tokyo. At the crossroads between the East, West and Africa, the paintings of Mehdi Qotbi fascinate in their geometric abstraction and colourful transformation of the written word.
Our artist collaboration with Mehdi Qotbi for our European flagship in Paris is a true celebration of the deep connection between coffee and the creative spirit, and one of many to come.
